Card of the day #5 - We Need a Little Christmas

I'm Card Captain at Michael Strong's Yahoo group this week.I'll upload a new card every day, and my 5th card for this week is a mini Christmas card - 3" high by 2 1/2" wide.

I tried to recycle here.
The card's basis was cut from an ad (very heavy CS, useful for small cards).
The tree's branches were all punched out of photo paper scraps, because it's the whitest paper and it resembles snow.

The card's front:
Black canvas textured CS
A 3D tree made of dozens of white branches, punched using Martha Stewart's branch punch, piled one on top of each other and glued together to create a snow covered tree
Basic Grey patterned paper - Jovial, just a thin scrap under the tree.
Clear, green and red blings

The card's inner side:
Basic Grey patterned paper - Jovial
Michael Strong's Cloisonné Christmas Tree stamp (small), stamped on red leather textured CS and heat embossed with black EP, cut with nail scissors and decorated using a white gel pen to resemble snow.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Card of the day #4 - Happy New Year Card

I'm Card Captain at Michael Strong's Yahoo group this week.I'll upload a new card every day, and my 4th card for this week is a Happy New Year card.
Today is Technique Thursday, when I'm sharing a technique with you.
After I stamped, heat embossed and cut with nail scissors DOZENS of Christmas trees, in various EP colors and on several colors of CS, I thought I might as well use them to create a special card which fits the occasion.
It's a luxurious card, very rich and colorful.
It's a pop-up card. Its outer side seems clean and simple, showing one large Christmas tree with a few blings on it, and the colors are elegant yet calm.
But once you open the card, there's a celebration of colors inside.
It may seem like a lot of work… well, it is!
But the technique isn't complicated and you can try it with any stamp you have.

For the card's front I used:
White canvas textured CS on heavy white CS for the card's basis
Michael Strong's Cloisonné Christmas Tree stamp (large), stamped on silver CS and heat embossed with black EP, cut with nail scissors and glued 3D for extra dimension
Clear, green and red blings

For the card's inner part I used:
White canvas textured CS
Dark grey, red and grass green leather textured CS
Black and forest green canvas textured CS
Blue CS
Michael Strong's Cloisonné Christmas Tree stamp (small), stamped on these pieces of CS and heat embossed with silver, black, white and gold EP
All the trees were cut with nail scissors and then carefully glued in layers to create the card's depth
Clear, green and red blings
Shiny gold paper and white canvas textured CS
The sentiment Happy New Year was written with a gold gel pen in a special font called Dorly's hand writing :-)

Take a closer look at the side view of the card, from both sides.
And believe me - you really should enlarge these photos!

The tutorial was taken from my Israeli friend Shira and here's the tutorial.
I wish you all a very Happy New Year!

Card of the day #2 - Flying Cranes And White Ribbon

I'm Card Captain at Michael Strong's Yahoo group this week.
I'll upload a new card every day, and my second card for this week is an optimistic card for the new year.

This card is suitable for a woman or for a man, because of its elegant and calm color combo.
It can be used for many occasions: for a new baby, for leaving the nest or for a fresh start in life.
The flying cranes are heading to the future. They are a symbol of an ambition to fly high.

Ingredients:
White CS for the card's basis
Dark aqua leather textured CS
Shiny silver paper
Basic Grey patterned paper - Boxer, its edges slightly distressed with Ranger's distress ink (Broken China)
White CS and shiny silver paper, cuttlebugged with SN, the white CS was also distressed with Ranger's distress ink (Broken China)
Michael Strong's Cloisonné Cranes Stamp Set (small and large) - both cranes were stamped, heat embossed with Zing's teal EP and glued 3D for extra dimension
Turquoise blings in various sizes
Narrow white satin ribbon.

For the interlacing ribbon piece I used a dark aqua leather textured CS, same as the background CS.
Both its edges were punched with EK Success Binding Edge Edger Punch.
Then I used a narrow white satin ribbon, interlacing it from one side to the other all the way down, and simply tying it at the lower end.

Take a closer look at the side view of the card, to see how attaching these 2 motifs - the cranes and the interlacing ribbon piece - with 3D foam tape creates nice shadows on the card's background.
Take a closer look at the cranes - can you imagine them flying?

We don't celebrate Christmas in Israel.
Actually, until yesterday the weather here was so warm and sunny (even in December!) and now it's getting rainy so we're wearing more than a T-shirt…
All of you who have snow piling up your doorway - don't be jealous.
At least you have enough water in your country, and you can enjoy the lovely sight of snow, so white and elegant (unless you're stuck in traffic… lol)
I made quite a few Christmas cards for family members and friends who celebrate it.
You can see several of them in my former posts, and I promise to show a few new ones in the following posts.

This is my Christmas Card #7, with a large Christmas snowy tree and a special motif of interlacing ribbon.
Ingredients:
This card has a white CS as its basis.
The next layer is a green canvas textured CS, its edges distressed for a Shabby Chic look.
Then there's a shiny gold paper, and a piece of patterned paper (from my stash) in shades of gold and green.
There are 2 main motifs on this card - the snowy tree and the interlacing ribbon piece.

For the interlacing ribbon piece I used black canvas textured CS.
Both its edges were punched with EK Success Binding Edge Edger Punch.
Then I used a narrow green satin ribbon, interlacing it from one side to the other all the way down, and simply tying its ends.

For the snowy tree I used Michael Strong's Cloisonné Christmas Tree stamp (large).
I stamped it on black canvas textured CS, then I heat embossed it with white EP, cut it with nail scissors and glued it 3D for extra dimension.
I also added clear, green and red blings, to add some Christmas glam.
Take a closer look at the side view of the card, to see how attaching these 2 motifs with 3D foam tape creates nice shadows on the card's background.

Happy Hanukkah!

I've been invited to BoniBleaux Designs as a guest designer for November.
My mission was to create a Hanukkah card using the digital stamp Hanukkah Harry, newly released on November 15th.
So here's the card I made.

For the background papers I used:
Red CS
Leather textured green and red CS, their edges slightly distressed for a Shabby Chic look
Basic Grey Origins papers, punched with Martha Stewart's Quilted edger punch
I printed Hanukkah Harry digital stamp on white CS and colored it with pencils.
To make Harry's background look old (like Harry himself…) I used Ranger's distress ink: Vintage Photo, Scattered Straw and Old Paper, mixing the 3 colors with a dauber.
I printed the text "Happy Hanukkah" on white CS and distressed it like the stamp's background. I used a ticket punch and brads for the corners.
The red CS, with the colored stamp and the sentiment on it, was glued 3D for extra dimension.

And here's a closeup photo of the colored stamp:
(You can enlarge each photo by clicking on it)

The color combo may remind you of Christmas. Well, it's the holidays season, and there are many reasons to celebrate.
Hanukkah is a holiday of light (lighting candles for 8 days) and calories (eating donuts and latkes).
I wish you all a Happy Hanukkah, filled with joy and calorie light :-)

H is for..... - Hanukkah card for ABC Challenge (21.11.10) .
